News LBPD Believes January & March PCH/Pine Killings May Be Related, Seeks Public's Help In ID'ing Five "Persons of Interest" Captured On Surveillance Video
(June 30, 2007) -- LBPD investigators now believe that the January 2007 murder of two women in the PCH/Pine area and the March 2007 fatal shooting of a 17 year old male in the same area may be related.
In a release, LBPD said Investigators are actively seeking the public's help in identifying five "persons of interest" captured on surveillance video walking through a nearby parking lot near the time of the March murder.

"Information provided by the public can be essential in solving these crimes," LBPD said in release.
On January 3, 2007 shortly after 11:00 p.m., Tasha Yolanda Brown, 39 and Tanya Rhena Settles, 44, were fatally shot in the 1800 block of Pine Ave. Ms. Brown's death came less than two years after her brother, Maurice Brown, 26, was fatally shot in the area of LB Blvd./14th St. (May 2005)...and Ms. Brown was reportedly about to be called as a prosecution witness in the trial of a man alleged to have murdered her brother.
LBPD said early in the case that its Detectives believe what occurred was gang related...and in March, LBPD indicated it was also investigating whether Ms. Brown's status as a witness played a role in her killing.
On March 6 at about 10:38 p.m., Edgar Sanchez, 17, was fatally shot in an alley in the 1800 block of Pine Ave. and pronounced dead at the scene.
"Investigators believe that both of these incidents may be related," the release said, adding that the PCH/Pine area "has recently experienced other violent crimes and neighborhood residents are encouraged to report all suspicious activities" to LBPD.
If you recognize the individuals in the surveillance video or have any information regarding these crimes, LBPD urges you to contact Homicide Detectives Scott Lasch or Malcomn Evans at (562) 570-7244.
