(June 6, 2007) -- The CA State Senate today (June 6) passeed and sent to the Assembly SB 924 by Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata (D, Oakland) that would put an advisory measure on the Feb. 2008 CA Presidential Primary ballot asking voters if they support having President Bush "end the United States occupation of Iraq and immediately begin the safe and orderly withdrawal of United States forces."
The vote was 23-11 along party lines (Dem support, Repubs opposed). Among Senators speaking in support of the bill was State Senator Jenny Oropeza (D., southbay), a co-author of the measure.
On June 4, Senator Perata amended his bill to change the text, which originally specified the withdrawl of all U.S. forces; as amended, the bill now calls for the withdrawal of U.S. forces.
State Senator Oropeza is one of 11 Democrats (who include Assemblywoman Laura Richardson (D., Carson-LB) and Valerie McDonald (daughter to the late Congresswoman), plus 5 Republicans, 1 Libertarian and 1 Green seeking a seat in Congress...where she'd have a vote on whether to continue funding the war.
