(June 12, 2007) -- LBReport.com has further information on the story we reported exclusively last night (June 11).
As we previously reported, LBPD says the three women who were ambushed, struck and (for two of the women) forcibly robbed on Friday night June 8 on Seaside Way (a block south of Ocean Blvd.) east of Pine Ave are now identified as residents of Orange County. They were in LB for a night out.
LBPD says the suspects are male Blacks in their 20s.
The victims indicate that the assailants said nothing and there's no evidence of a racial motive in the crime. There were no sexual assaults. What took place appears at this point to be a violent, coordinated strong-arm robbery.
The victims were part of a group of eight women in their 20s and early 30s, identified by one of the group as business owners and property owners, visiting downtown LB for a night out. In the robbery, two of them lost their purses, IDs and credit cards.
One of the women, struck and/or pushed to the ground, was taken to a hospital by paramedics with a head laceration requiring stitches.
A third woman was struck in the face by one of the assailants, leaving her with a large bruise, after she tried to defend her friends.
[update] Following the robbery, one of the victims believes several hundred dollars in charges have appeared on one of her stolen credit cards. [end update]
The robbers jumped into a getaway car, says LBPD; one of the women present but not robbed says there were two cars.
Further as it develops.
