(June 1, 2008) -- In the final days of the first seriously contested Dem Assembly primary in decades, LB Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga has sent a mailer to Dems that says, "This Mailer is About Heart. PLEASE...If You Only Read One Political Mailer This Week...Let It Be Be This One." [emphasis in original]
Inside, it states, "The Difference" [between whom is unstated] is Heart" and says, "I don't have a big campaign war chest of special interest money to send you lots of fancy brochures. And I don't have a famous family name, or even a name that's easy to remember."
Meanwhile, a mailer from Vice Mayor Bonnie Lowenthal's campaign tells Dem voters (with a message on a large campaign button): "On this one, Democrats agree!" and on the flip side says, "The Democratic Party endorses BONNIE LOWENTHAL for Assembly" and says, "Democrats may be divided over some elections, but in our local race for State Assembly th Democratic Party has endorsed one, and only one, candidate: Bonnie Lowenthal."
The mailer also cites endorsements by the CA Democratic Party, LB Democratic Club, Sierra Club, State Sen. Alan Lowenthal, LB Mayor Bon Foster (among others).
[Comment: LBReport.com readers can judge these claims for themselves. We've published both candidates' salient campaign contributions, click here. As to whether "Democrats agree," readers can view Uranga's endorsements and Lowenthal's endorsements on their respective campaign websites. Dem voters (not the Party) decide the Party's November election candidate in the June 3 primary.]
An update of recent large contributions to Bonnie Lowenthal's Assembly campaign indicates a contribution from First Lady Nancy Foster ($1,500, 5/29). (Mayor Bob Foster had previously endorsed Vice Mayor Lowenthal.)
Another Bonnie Lowenthal contributor is John. J. Moores of Del Mar ($3,600, 5/30), who owns the San Diego Padres baseball team.
Recent large contributors to Councilwoman Reyes Uranga's Assembly campaign include the CA State Outdoor Advertising Ass'n ($1,000, 5/28).
