(June 2, 2012) -- Below are sums spent by political action committees (PACs) between the April 10 primary and May 30 in support of 4th district Councilman Patrick O'Donnell's candidacy for a third term in a June 5 runoff against challenger Daryl Supernaw.
Political action committees can conduct their own campaigns separate from the campaigns conducted by the candidate himself. Sums collected and spent for PAC-run independent campaigns aren't limited by LB's voter enacted cap of $350 on contributions (per election) to a candidate's campaign. As a result, the amounts spent by PACs to try and influence LB voters may eclipse sums collected and spent by the candidates themselves. Council incumbent O'Donnell is supported by three major PACs: the L.A. County Federation of Labor AFL-CIO, the LB Police Officers Ass'n and the LB Firefighters Ass'n. Challenger Supernaw hasn't received money or support from any PACs. Independent campaign activity in support of Councilman Patrick O'Donnell's candidacy:
The June 5 runoff will decide whether LB has a new 4th district Councilman or reelects its incumbent seeking a third term. All LB Councilmembers have a co-equal vote on citywide spending priorities, budget decisions and development projects.
