(June 14, 2012) -- The CA Dept. of Education (CDE) has released updated data showing in what percentage range -- "decile" ranges from the top 10% to the bottom 10% -- each CA school ranks when its previously released Academic Performance Index (API) scores are compared with all other CA schools and when compared with schools that CDE considers "similar" based on demographic factors.

LBReport.com provides a direct link below to the detailed data, but among the highlights/lowlights we noticed:

Among elementary schools:

  • Naples was the only LBUSD elementary school to rank in the top 10% compared to all CA elementary schools and compared to elementary schools with "similar" demographics.

  • Fremont, Gant, Longfellow, Lowell, and Naples ranked in the top 10% compared to all CA elementary schools but weren't in the top 10% when compared to elementary schools with similar demographics

  • Newcomb, Webster, Signal Hill, Roosevelt, Madison, Lee, Lafayette, Edison, Carver and Bryant ranked in the top 10% when compared to schools with "similar" demographics but not when compared to all CA elementary schools. Webster and Edison ranked at the top of the bottom half (decile 5) when compared to all CA schools

Among middle schools:

  • No LBUSD middle schools scored in the top 10% compared to all other CA middle schools. Rogers and Stanford scored in the top 20% compared to all middle schools.

  • Rogers was in the top 40% and Stanford was in the top 50% when compared to schools with similar demographics.

  • Washington Middle School scored in the top 20% compared to schools with similar demographics, but in the bottom 30% among all CA middle Schools.

Among LB high schools:

  • CA Academy of Math & Science (LBUSD magnet school) scored in the top 10% compared to all CA high schools and compared to CA high schools with similar demographics, a combination of the highest rankings possible.

  • Renaissance High School for the Arts outranked all LB high schools (other than CAMS). Renaissance High School ranked in the top 40% compared to all CA high schools...and in the top 10% when measured against schools with similar demographics.

  • Lakewood, Wilson, Millikan and Poly all ranked within the top of the bottom 50% (decile 5) when measured against all CA high schools.

  • Cabrillo and Jordan scored in the bottom 10% when compared to all CA high schools.

  • Cabrillo ranked in the bottom 10% when compared to CA high schools with similar demographics (a combination of the worst rankings possible).

  • Jordan scored in bottom 20% when ranked against CA high schools with similar demographics.
