(June 14, 2012) -- Residents in the affluent area of San Antonio Rd./Cedar Ave. saw an LBPD presence this morning (June 14) as officers responded to a resident's report of suspicious activity, swiftly located and arrested a burglary suspect, conducted an exhaustive search for a second suspect (not located for now) and recovered items taken from a garage.
LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt tells LBReport.com that at about 8:45 a.m., a resident called 911 after observing two suspicious male subjects in an alley in the 4100 block of Cedar Ave. When officers arrived, both subejcts fled into the neighborhood; police immediately set up a perimeter...and it was determined that a garage in the area had been burglarized. Police took one suspect, a 30 year old Long Beach man, into custody a short distance away. Officers then conducted a thorough search of the area for nearly three hours that included LBPD's K-9 unit and "Fox" (LBPD's helicopter). Nearby Los Cerritos Elementary School was put into protective "lockdown" status (standard protocol keeping students indoors during police activity). Officers searched the area well into the 11:00 a.m. hour but the second suspect wasn't located and remains outstanding. Property taken during the burglary was found in the yard of a nearby residence. PIO Pratt notes the possibility that the suspects committed other burglaries in the area and LBPD's investigation remains ongoing...and adds: "LBPD commends the quick actions of the resident who called police on spotting suspicious activity."
