UPDATE: LBPD Says Tireless Work By Investigation Detective + West Division Officers Brings Arrest Of Suspect Driver In Anaheim/Linden Fatal Hit-And-Run

In a release this morning (June 22), LBPD says Accident Investigations Detective Brian Watt worked tirelessly since the fatal occurence, following-up on leads in attempting to ID the suspect vehicle and driver.

"With the assistance of West Patrol Division officers, police responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Cedar Avenue, where the suspect vehicle, a black 1993 Honda Accord, was located. The vehicle had front-end damage consistent with having recently been involved in a collision," LBPD's release says.

Through further investigation, police identified a suspect they tracked to the city of Carson. At approximately 1:30 p.m. on June 21, 2012, Long Beach Police arrested 34-year-old Argon Sabas of Long Beach, at his place of employment. He was booked for vehicular manslaughter, and is being held at the Long Beach City Jail on $50,000 bail. Investigators were also able to identify the female passenger in the vehicle, and the investigation remains ongoing.

As previously reported by LBReport.com, the June 9 hit-and-run took the life of a pedestrian, Yolanda Archuleta, 51, of San Pedro. LBPD says Ms. Archuleta had been attempting to cross Anaheim Street, walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk in the westbound lanes, just west of Linden Avenue. The suspect vehicle was traveling westbound on Anaheim Street when it struck the victim. The suspect vehicle had stopped and both driver and passenger were seen allegedly getting out of the vehicle momentarily, and walking up to the victim before getting back in and driving westbound on Anaheim Street.
