(June 21, 2012) -- City Hall has FINALLY given LB's all-volunteer Junior Concert Band an opportunity to perform during LB's summer concert series...and it's a high visibility venue.

On July 4th [!], Councilman James Johnson and LB's Parks, Recreation & Marine Dept. will host a free concert featuring LB's all-volunteer Jr. Concert Band performing atop the highest point in Long Beach -- at 2745 Orange Ave. -- at what ultimately become the biggest park built in the city since El Dorado Park in 1952.

The area offers sweeping views of the sunset, the Pacific Ocean and downtown Los Angeles. On the 4th of July, crowds can enjoy great music, watch the sunset from the best viewpoint in the city and see fireworks from anywhere that may be visible.

Important advisory: It's a natural area, so visitors should bring a lawn chair and some food if they want to picnic.

The city's release notes that Signal Hill Petroleum has made significant contributions in developing the initial 4-acre park, including improvements to fencing and entrances, parking, walking paths, painting, and more. "This has been a great opportunity for our company to contribute and be a part of a team that is creating this amazing new open space for the Long Beach community," said David Slater, Executive Vice President of Signal Hill Petroleum.

"This will be a 4th of July to remember, as we celebrate the beginning of what will be the first regional park for North, Central, and West Long Beach," said Councilmember Johnson in the city's release, calling the show an opportunity to "be part of the history of Long Beach as we celebrate our nation's great history."

4th of July Concert & Park Preview
Music: Long Beach Junior Concert Band and Flattop Tom & His Jump Cats
Location: 2745 Orange Avenue, between Spring St and Willow St
Time; Gate opens at 6 PM; music starts at 7 PM

Reminder: This is a natural area, so bring a lawn chair and some food to picnic.
