(June 25, 2012) -- WLB and East Wrigley residents heard and saw police activity on Sunday night from about 11:00 p.m. into the midnight hour after LBPD officers spotted a stolen vehicle heading westbound in the 1500 block of W. Willow St. (at Caspian Ave.). LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt says that when the vehicle refused to yield for a traffic stop, a pursuit was initiated in which the suspect headed to the area of LB Blvd./Eagle Street (just south of Burnett), crashed into an unoccupied parked car and fled into the neighborhood on foot.
PIO Pratt says police established a perimeter and conducted a search with the assistance of a K-9 unit and CHP's helicopter but the suspect wasn't located and remains outstanding. The recovered stolen vehicle was impounded. An area resident reports hearing what sounded very much like gunfire -- three shots our correspondent says -- before the commotion surrounding the stolen vehicle. The gunfire (whether related to the stolen car or not) wasn't immediately confirmed by us.
