(June 7, 2012, 8:30 a.m.) -- Sharp eyed LBPD patrol officers spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle shortly before midnight last night (June 6) in the eastern part of the Wrigley district (6th Council district). At daybreak today (June 7), two suspects are in custody, one arrested fairly quickly but the other hid and barricaded himself in a shed, leading to overnight police activity in the 2400 block of Earl Ave., including SWAT, that ended shortly before dawn with the arrest of the barricaded suspect.

LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. David Marander tells LBReport.com that officers spotted the allegedly stolen vehicle in the area of LB Blvd./25th St. two individuals were in the vehicle; a short pursuit ensued; one of the individuals was apprehended fairly quickly but the other took refuge in a storage shed in the area of 2400 block of Earl Ave. (between Pacific and LB Blvd.)

Officers had information that led them to believe the second suspect might be armed; police made announcements urging the suspect to come out; he didn't; a K9 officer was deployed with more announcements; the suspect didn't come out; the barricaded suspect situation fit the criteria for a SWAT call out; SWAT arrived and made more announcements without success...and ultimately deployed a chemical agent (pepper spray type substance).

The second suspect then emerged and was taken into custody (a male adult). LBPD PIO Marander says a gun may have been ditched in the area between the stolen car and where the second suspect was arrested.

A resident affected by the police activity writes on Facebook this morning:

May I express my gratitude to LBPD/SWAT for their handling of a incident this morning...Although the situation could have been worse, they were professional and kept our safety the #1 concern. Thank you Lieutenant LeBaron and to every officer involved...
