UPDATE: New Orleans Coroner Rules Terrilyn Monette's Death a Drowning, No Signs of Trauma; Missing Teacher Originally From Long Beach Was Found Deceased in Car Pulled From Bayou



(June 10, 2013 -- UPDATE) -- The Orleans Parish Coroner's office investigators say there were no signs of trauma to the body of Terrilyn Monette, whose body was found in a car pulled from New Orleans area Bayou St. John on Saturday (June 8) and her death has been ruled a drowning.

"As is standard, the Coroner’s Office will now have toxicology tests performed and the NOPD awaits those results" and New Orleans PD's Accident Reconstruction -- Fatality Unit detectives "will now try to reconstruct the circumstances that led to Ms. Monette's death" New Orleans PD said in a release.

"On behalf of this police department, I want to express my sincerest condolences to Ms. Monette’s family, and assure them that our detectives will do everything they can to find the answers as to how this tragedy happened," said New Orleans PD Superintendent Ronal Serpas.


(June 9, 2013) -- A car pulled from a New Orleans-area bayou on Saturday (June 8) contained a decomposed body believed to be that of Terrilyn Monette, originally from Long Beach, who moved to the New Orleans area to teach 2nd grade at Woodland West Elementary in Harvey, Louisiana.

Formal identification of the deceased -- and answers to what happened to Ms. Monette -- remain.
