(June 1, 2013, 11:15 p.m.) -- Initial information is sketchy, but some type of large party or gathering in the 4200 block of Pacific Ave. -- which LBPD says at one point had over 200 people in attendance -- at late afternoon/early evening Saturday (June 1, very roughly 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. hour) -- triggered an LBPD tactical alert to deploy sufficient police resources to the area.
LBPD Public Information Officer Marlene Arrona says the majority of attendees left the party and the tactical alert was lifted, and area patrol units will [thereafter] be conducting a "district car check" [a common procedure in which police unit(s) pay special attention and/or patrol a specific area.] A resident in the area says the party, gathering or whatever it was appeared to draw a stream of cars into the neighborhood, coming north on Pacific Ave. Attendees appeared to be adults, late teens through early 40s (very rough estimate). The resident says there was a very large police presence in response; officers were calm and visible with units parked along area streets and alleys...and LBPD's helicopter overhead. There was no police tape visible but officers wanted to know who was going into the area. The police activity wasn't a secret; LBPD sent out a "Nixle" alert about it at 6:43 p.m., headlined "Advisory: Police activity in area of 4200 block Pacific Ave. Stay clear of area to reduce traffic congestion." The text added, "Please avoid this area for the next couple of hours. Thank you for your cooperation..." As of 10:55 p.m., LBPD PIO Arrona says there were no citations or arrests. An area resident says some police remain visible in the area entering the 11 p.m. hour. An area resident says neighbors are very displeased about whatever it was that drew such a large crowd into the area. LBREPORT.com is following-up on this story. Further as we learn it.
