Long Beach Harbor Comm'n Ad Hoc Subcommittee -- Wise & Fields -- Will Develop Steps and Perhaps Timetable In Selecting New PoLB Exec. Director; Their Proposals Will Come To Full Board For Review & Possible Refinement on June 17

(June 10, 2013) -- Two members of Long Beach's Harbor Commission -- Board President Susan Anderson Wise and Commissioner Tom Fields -- will develop steps and perhaps a timetable in the selection process for a new Executive Director for the Port of Long Beach and bring this back to the full Board consideration on June 17.

The use of an ad hoc subcommittee was proposed during the Board's June 5 meeting by Board President Wise, seconded by Commissioner Fields. "[W]e would have something concrete that we could discuss on June 17 and modify it or not, depending on if we found it satisfactory but I feel it would be a good way to advance the discussion in an orderly fashion...We would report back to the board on the 17th with what our suggestions were as for the plan and what the plan might look like," Board President Wise said. Her motion carried 5-0.

The Board then went into to a closed session and on June 7, the Port issued a release indicating the Board had unanimously chosen Chief Harbor Engineer Al Moro as an interim executive director. PoLB's release explicitly stated that Mr. Moro said he won't be a candidate for the permanent position. The Board voted in public session to have a subcommittee comprised of President Wise and Commissioner Dines negotiate the terms of Mr. Moro's interim appointment, which will take effect following a formal (public) Board vote on June 17.

As reported May 23 (first again) by LBREPORT.com, the Port of Oakland announced that PoLB Executive Director Chris Lytle would become the Port of Oakland's Executive Director.
