(June 17, 2013, 10:55 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. from initial 8:10 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com now has further information on this morning's horrible collision in which CHP says a motorcycle broadsided a minivan, killing the motorcyclist and the minivan driver at the intersection of Wardlow Rd. at Norwalk Blvd. (NE Long Beach adjacent to El Dorado Park Estates).

CA Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Al Perez tells LBREPORT.com that a CHP officer was on patrol on the southbound 605 freeway at roughly South St. when he saw a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed...and when the CHP officer tried to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcycle accelerated at an even higher rate of speed

The motorcyclist exited on Spring St. and continued eastbound on Spring St...but when the CHP officer exited on Spring St., he lost visual contact with the motorcyclist.

The CHP officer was heading back (northbound) on Norwalk Blvd. -- by which time the officer had discontinued the pursuit, PIO Perez says -- when he approached Wardlow Rd. and noticed that a collision had occurred. [CHP has previously indicated the accident was reported at approx. 6:09 a.m.]

CHP says the motorcycle was northbound on Norwalk Blvd. and broadsided a minivan traveling westbound on Wardlow Rd. The impact caused fatal injuries to both parties. (No other passengers were involved).

The minivan's door was open, airbag appeared visible; we've pixeled that area.

CHP says the driver of the minivan was a woman, approx. 63 years old.

The motorcycle rider was a man approximately 23 years old.

LBPD was also on scene to assist CHP with traffic control until replaced by CHP units.
