Multiple Townhomes Hit By Fumigation Burglaries At |
(June 20, 2014, 9:10 p.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has learned of a disturbing variety of "fumigation burglary" in which some person(s) burglarized multiple townhomes being termite-tented at a single Long Beach multi-residence complex.
LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Megan Zabel says that on June 13, officers and a burglary detective responded to a multi-residence complex in the 1700 block of Grand Ave. which was burglarized while it was tented for termite fumigation. LBPD confirms that multiple residences within the complex were burglarized. An independent source outside LBPD (who tipped us to this story and provided us with information consistent with what LBPD has confirmed) says ten homes were burglarized [caveat: we've received conflicting information on the number and we're seeking clarification.] Our tipster/source wonders whether the multiple burglaries might be some sort of mass property crime record for Long Beach. In a release issued June 19, LBPD said fumigation burglaries are occurring at houses and apartment complexes both locally and regionally. Its release recommended removing valuables from residence(s) before fumigation begins, consider hiring private security and contacting LBPD to request extra patrols in the area. LBPD says private security guards were on scene upon officers' arrival and confirmed they had been hired to patrol the complex during the fumigation process. Our tipster/source says LBPD was notified of the tenting [not confirmed at this point.] LBPD says its investigation of this crime/crimes is ongoing and asks anyone with information about what took place to contact LBPD's Burglary Detail at (562) 570-7351. blog comments powered by Disqus
