(June 18, 2016) -- Two men (adults) were shot/wounded in the early morning hours on Saturday (June 18) in the 200 block of Hullett St. (roughly a block north of LB's historic Dairy and Creamery, site of multiple events attended by political candidates and civic officials.

It's the third instance of gunfire flying in various parts of Northtown in roughly 14 hours, with two no-hit shootings during daylight hours (one in the 8th dist., another in the 9th dist. from an armed robbery to a person that began in Lakewood bordering the northern part of the 8th dist.) (LBREPORT.com coverage here and here.)

Initial information is sketchy. LBPD morning Watch Commander Ryan LeBaron tells LBREPORT.com that at about 2:34 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Hullett St. and found two men (adult) with what appeared to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. LBPD's gang unit is investigating what took place.

On Sept 15 and 22, 2015 the Council voted (without dissent) to adopt a FY16 budget, recommended by Mayor Robert Garcia, that failed to restore LBPD's former field anti-gang unit. It leaves LB taxpayers with a budgeted police level for citywide deployment roughly equivalent per capita to what L.A. would have if L.A.'s Mayor and Council cut roughly 30% of LAPD's officers.

In August 2012, Mayor Foster first recommended the budgeted elimination of LBPD's field anti-gang unit. The Council balked, funded the unit at half strength for a year, but in subsequent years quietly let it disappear.
