It's the second documented time gunfire has flown in the western portion of Councilman Supernaw's district since May 3 (15th/Stanley, vehicle struck, no persons hit.) In February, the western end of the 4th district had three shootings (including a homicide): (Feb. 28: man found shot to death, area 10th St./Norman Court; Feb. 27: gunfire hits vehicle, area 11th/Ohio; Feb. 9: man shot in midnight hour, 2200 block Spaulding St.)
On Sept 15 and 22, 2015 the Council voted (without dissent) to adopt a FY16 budget, recommended by Mayor Robert Garcia, that failed to restore LBPD's former field anti-gang unit. It leaves LB taxpayers with a budgeted police level for citywide deployment roughly equivalent per capita to what L.A. would have if L.A.'s Mayor and Council cut roughly 30% of LAPD's officers. In August 2012, Mayor Foster first recommended the budgeted elimination of LBPD's field anti-gang unit. The Council balked, funded the unit at half strength for a year, but in subsequent years quietly let it disappear. Other recent shootings:
