(June 9, 2016) -- Democrat incumbent Cong. Alan Lowenthal will face Republican Andrew Whallon in the 47th Congressional district that includes most of Long Beach and reaches to Little Saigon. Congressman Lowenthal received 65.8% on June 7 and Mr. Whallon received 22.1%, with Repub Sanford Kahn receiving 12.0%.

Long Beach area state legislators State Senator Ricardo Lara (D, Long Beach-Huntington Park) and Assemblyman Patrick O'Donnell (D, Long Beach) faced no primary ballot opponent and both are re-elected.

June 10: The initial version of this story erroneously reported that under CA's "top two finishers" rule, Cong. Lowenthal had been re-elected outright. LBREPORT.com regrets our error in this.
