(June 29, 2016) -- As reported yesterday (June 28) on LBREPORT.com, LBPD K9 officer Credo died in the line of duty (June 28) when a knife-wielding suspect allegedly continued to advance on officers, one of whom fired his weapon, striking the suspect...and Credo.

Officers rushed Credo to a nearby vet hospital and many officers converged on the location, anxiously awaiting news of Credo's condition.

On learning that he did not survive, a number of officers assembled and carried Credo out of the vet hospital, draped in an American flag, as other officers stood at attention and saluted. Among those present was Jojo Stanford of Trots Dog Walking and Training, who captured the touching video above and uploaded it onto the Trots Dog Walking and Training Facebook page

LBPD says in a June 29 release that Credo, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois, served LBPD for two years alongside his handler, Officer Mike Parcells. During his time on the streets alongside Officer Parcells, Credo worked Patrol and Narcotics, and was involved in over 30 apprehensions.

[LBPD June 29 release text] Officer Parcells is a 23-year veteran of the department and has been a K-9 handler for 16 years. Credo is the second dog that Officer Parcells has lost in the line of duty. On October 2, 2005, at approximately 11:15 p.m., his K-9 partner "Ranger" was shot during a SWAT call out in the 1200 block of Loma Vista Avenue. [See LBREPORT.com note below.] Ranger was severely injured, having sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, and died during surgery. Ranger was also a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois who served the L.B.P.D. and the community for two years.

Information regarding a memorial service for Credo will be announced once arrangements have been finalized. Anyone wishing to make a contribution can do so by visiting the L.B.P.D. K-9 Association’s website at www.lbk9oa.org. Cards can be sent to Officer Parcells as follows:
