(June 4, 2017, 10:10 a.m.) -- LBREPORT.com has learned that a number of 3rd Council districts residents are organizing themselves into a new group -- "ENUF" (Eastside Neighbors United Fully) -- after Mayor Robert Garcia and the City Council (without dissent) responded to their online petition (signed by 1,200+ mainly 3rd district residents) seeking relief from "homeless, mentally ill, transient, drug addicted and petty thieves inundating" their neighborhoods by providing no immediate relief and instead requested a city management report in 120 days (or more) to develop a future "holistic approach to the issue of homelessness and residential quality of life"

The May 23 Council item was agendized by Councilwoman Suzie Price (co-authored by Councilmembers Austin and Andrews) accompanied by this memo.. [LBREPORT.com coverage of May 23 Council meeting here.] The residents' petition, launched on April 15 (which has grown to 1,300+ signers as of June 4) stated they are "tax paying, voting citizens of Belmont Shore, Alamitos Heights, Naples, Belmont Heights, The Peninsula, Park Estates" and "feel threatened in our own neighborhoods now. Neighbors complain that they can't go to the parks, joggers take pepper spray with them, businesses are robbed, our garages are ransacked, our belongings are stolen, our cars are broken into." ENUF's organizers say the group also plans an E-newsletter.
Meanwhile and apparently separately, a LB resident [neighborhood uncertain] who recently became a crime victim when someone stole her bicycle while she slept, has resorted to creating a Facebook page stating: "ALERT Long Beach! My beautiful bike has been stolen from right outside my door tonight (around 3am). Her page adds: "I have filed a Police Report and have the bike's serial number. Any other advice as to what proactive steps I can take to locate it? LMK!"
Just days earlier, LB Chef Paul Buchanan [owns/operates Primal Alchemy] published a May 29 comment on his Facebook page stating: "Robert Garcia and Suzie Price it's time to do something. Bike stealing in Belmont Shore is out of control" stating he saw "two guys steal two bikes right in front of" a 2nd St. restaurant. He added: "I can't believe my eyes. It happened before I realized what happened. This directly affects the security of residents. We are not safe!" Chef Buchanan's comment uncorked multiple responses from victims and their neighbors venting...including Councilwoman Price who volunteered that her bicycle had been stolen from along 2nd St. Councilwoman Price said she will propose a "chop shop & bike registration" at an upcoming Council meeting, adding "We need to be more vigilant.
