(June 12, 2017, 10:50 a.m.) -- LBPD issued a release at midmorning today (June 12) with details of what happened in the 11 p.m. hour last night (June 11) when officers responded to a call from a screaming woman being attacked by a Pit Bull dog; after trying less than lethal means, officers ultimately shot and killed the dog. In its release (text below), LBPD says the woman owned the dog and (according to her, the release says) it had a history of violent behavior toward people.

[LBPD release text] On Sunday, June 11, 2017, at approximately 11:25 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4100 block of Norse Way regarding a screaming female being attacked by a Pit Bull dog. Long Beach Animal Control was also requested to respond.
(June 12, 2017, 5:55 a.m.) -- At dawn, initial information is sketchy but the basics seem clear: a dog was attacking a woman in the area of Norse Way/Carson St. last night; LBPD responded; after first trying non-lethal means to stop the animal's attack, an officer(s) shot and killed the dog. The injured woman was taken to a hospital to treat her wounds. It's not immediately clear who owned the dog or exactly what breed of dog was involved.
