(June 19, 2018, updated 10:15 a.m.) -- In an overnight homicide (that brought police activity well past dawn), a man was fatally shot shortly before 3 a.m. in the 1700 block of Daisy Ave. (one block south of PCH, one block west of Magnolia Ave.) It's a posible bicycle ride-by shooting of a homeless man, believed to have lived in a nearby encampment in the industrial area near 17th/Daisy.

It's the second shooting within two weeks in the area just south of PCH in the 1st Council district (Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez) but police don't believe it's gang-related.

Initial information is sketchy. LBPD Public Information Officer Arantxa Chavarria says officers responded at approximately 2:45 a.m. to a shooting in the 1700 block of Daisy Ave. LBFD pronounced the victim deceased at the scene and LBPD's investigation is ongoing.

LNPD Sgt. Brad Johnson adds at midmorning that the shooting is not believed to be gang related; the victim is believed to be a homeless man, roughly 30-35 years old, who may have lived in an encampment near the area of 17th/Daisy...and the shooter may have been riding a bicycle (according to the overnight Watch Commander.)
