(June 7, 2018, 12:06 p.m.) -- Heal the Bay, a Santa Monica based non-profit, has released its 2018 "Beach Report Card," reporting levels of three fecal indicator bacteria. The group's grades are "based on routine beach water quality sampling conducted by county health agencies, sanitation departments, and dischargers. Water samples are analyzed for three fecal indicator bacteria (FIB) that indicate pollution from numerous sources, including human and animal waste. These FIB are total coliform, fecal coliform (Escherichia coli), and Enterococcus spp."
The group's grades at various beaches are assigned for three distinct periods: Summer Dry Weather (April-Oct. 2017); Winter Dry Weather (Nov. 2017-Mar. 2018) and Year Round Wet (three days following 0.10" rain event, April 2017-March 2018) LB's beaches received the grades below: [Scroll down for further.] |
