(June 2, 2018, 7:22 a.m.) -- The Los Angeles County Democratic Party issued a statement Friday afternoon (June 1) calling "misleading" the use of a logo "very similar to" the official Democratic National Committee's logo in a mailer by an independent expenditure committee ("Long Beach Citizens for Responsible Government") supporting 7th district Council candidate Jared Milrad...when in fact Councilman Roberto Uranga is the only candidate in the race officially endorsed by the Democratic Party.

The L.A. County Democratic Party's full statement follows below:

[L.A. County Dem Party statement text] Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair Mark Gonzalez released the following statement on the misleading use of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Logo by an IE supporting Candidate Jared Milrad:

"It has come to our attention that Councilmember Roberto Uranga's opponent Jared Milrad, more specifically the Independent Expenditure Long Beach Citizens for Responsible Government, who is supporting him, has sent out a mail piece highlighting Mr. Milrad's Democratic values. The misleading issue is on the back, a logo that is very similar to the official DNC logo is used.

For clarification, Roberto Uranga is the ONLY candidate officially endorsed by the Democratic Party and we condemn any tactics that aim to mislead voters.

Roberto was unanimously endorsed by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party because of his history of commitment to equal pay for women in the workplace, his support of working families, and support of employee status for truck drivers. He has fought for decades alongside the immigrant community and the LGBTQ community for civil and human rights.

Roberto has lived in the district for 35 years and has dedicated his life to improving Long Beach, and believes everyone deserves a good quality education. As councilmember, Roberto Uranga has worked towards better community policing, implemented after-school programs for kids, and been an advocate for responsible business growth. Roberto Uranga has earned the support of the Democratic Party by demonstrating these values over the life of his career."
