LBPD Creates Telephone Hotline Providing Threat Assessment Info To The Public...And Another Line To Take Reports of Suspicious Info
(March 21, 2003) -- LBPD has established a dedicated telephone number to provide threat
assessment information to the public...and a separate line to take reports of suspicious info.
To receive recorded information on the latest threat conditions, call (at any time): (562) 570-5566.
When we tested it tonight at roughly 8:15 p.m., we received the following recorded message:
You have reached the Long Beach Police Department terrorism threat advisory system. If this is an emergency, please hang up now and call 911. If you are calling to report suspicious activity that you believe may be related to terrorism, please call 570-5593.
The current Homeland Security Threat Advisory Level is Orange. Threat Level Orange indicates that the United States is at a high risk of attack due to international developments.
There is currently no specific information regarding potential attacks or targets within the City of Long Beach.
We request that the community remain vigilant during this heightened threat condition. You may rest assured that the Long Beach Police Department is doing everything within its power to protect the citizens of Long Beach. Thank you.
When we tested the LBPD number for reporting suspicious info (570-5593) [don't do this unless you have info to report], we reached a live person. She told us the line will be staffed during most daytime hours, but may be on voice mail overnight with messages retrieved the next day.
She indicated that if the information being reported is of an emergency nature when the suspicious info reporting line isn't staffed, call 911.
