(March 18, 2004, updated 6:50 p.m. from initial a.m. posting) -- LBPD reports that at approximately 6:50 a.m. on March 18, a 19 year-old man was stabbed to death in an alley to the rear of the 3600 block of Atlantic Ave.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer notes the investigation is ongoing and further information is pending...but thanks to good witness information, one suspect was taken into custody within hours. Another suspect is also believed involved. Officer Schirmer says good witness information has assisted LBPD in its investigation...for which the Department thanks the public.
LBPD believes two suspects approached the victim in the rear alley, an altercation ensued and after the stabbing, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Information led investigators to a residence in Hawaiian Gardens at which LBPD arrested a 35 year-old resident of that city within hours of the homicide.
PIO Schirmer noted, "We are grateful for the public's help in this case. It helps us do our job when we have help from witnesses."
LBPD's investigation is ongoing...and anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact LBPD Homicide Investigators Richard Conant or Robert Erickson at (562) 570-7244.
