(March 10, 2004) -- A mother and daughter were robbed at gunpoint while unloading groceries in the driveway of their home in the 3800 block of Studebaker Rd. on March 8...and police believe they may be the latest victims in a string of eastside armed robberies reported by LBReport.com on February 25.
In the latest crime, a thief pointed a handgun at the mother, grabbed her purse and ran, LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Paul LeBaron told LBReport.com. Unlike the other reported robberies, neither of the victims reported seeing a second suspect waiting in a nearby car...but the victims' description of the gunman does parallel that given by other victims, including some in the Belmont Shore area.
If the March 8 crime is related to the string of eastside robberies, it brings the total to at least 11 since November. LBPD has provided below composite drawings of suspects being sought by LBPD in connection with the armed robberies.
As previously reported by LBReport.com, LBPD says that in most cases, the victims drive their vehicle to a driveway or garage and as they exit the vehicle, a lone, male suspect wearing a hooded sweatshirt approaches, armed with a handgun. The suspect demands money or property such as a purse or wallet, then flees on foot to a nearby vehicle where a second suspect is waiting. The suspects have targeted men and women who were alone as well as couples. These robberies have occurred between 7 p.m. and early morning.
Police are encouraging the public to be vigilant and to contact police if they see any suspicious vehicles or persons in their neighborhoods.
The public should not attempt to contact these suspicious persons but to call 9-1-1, LBPD says.
