Missing Elderly ELB Man Found Alive in Los Altos Near 405

(March 9, 2004, updated at 6:25 p.m.) -- LBReport.com is pleased to report that an elderly ELB man, missing since March 5, has been found alive near the 405 freeway at Bellflower Blvd. in the Los Altos area.

[update] LBPD says it responded to the area after an alert citizen who lives in the area heard a man's moaning.

The citizen, who knew of the missing man through media reports, found 74 year-old Kenneth Charles Heilman of LB in the bushes to the side of the roadway near the southbound off-ramp of the 405 freeway to northbound Bellflower Blvd.

The citizen called 911 and LBPD officer and LBFD personnel responded.

LBPD investigators believe Mr. Heilman may have fallen down a crevasse on Saturday March 6...where he remained until today. Police say Mr. Heilman was coherent bus slightly disoriented and had only minor scratches.

Mr. Heilman left his ELB home on March 5 at 3:45 p.m. for a 4:00 p.m. doctor's appointment near Clark Ave. and Atherton St...and never arrived.

LBPD spread the word via area media, including LBReport.com, noting that Mr. Heilman needed daily medication.

On March 8, as reported by LBReport.com, police found Mr. Heilman's car with a flat tire in the 5500 block of Rolanda Street (just north of Los Altos shopping center) after an observant citizen spotted it on March 7.
