(March 24, 2005, updated Mar. 25) -- A frightening situation developed on an MTA Blue Line train at the LB Blvd/PCH station this afternoon (March 24), leaving a robbery suspect and an L.A. County Deputy Sheriff wounded...and three robbery suspects on the loose.
L.A. County Sheriff Public Information Officer Deputy Tania Plunkett told LBReport.com that at about 4:30 p.m., a passenger yelled that he'd been robbed. When the train stopped at LB Blvd/PCH, four suspects exited the train. A passenger pointed out the suspects to two L.A. County Sheriff Deputies who were on transit duty.
The Deputies attempted to contact the suspects. Three suspects fled. One suspect was detained by the Deputies. A struggle ensued, during which the suspect allegedly tried to seize one Deputy's duty weapon, prompting the second Deputy to shoot the suspect.
The suspect was wounded...and the same round also wounded the first Deputy.
The suspect and Deputy were taken to hospitals with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The three other suspects remain at large. LASD's only description as we post is that the suspects are male Blacks, 19-20 years of age.
[update] LASD says that during the course of its investigation, a loaded, semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene.
