(March 31, 2006) -- If you've got household hazardous waste and e-waste (computer and electronic junk), there'll be a "universal waste roundup" on Saturday April 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at ELB's Veterans Stadium (5000 Lew Davis Street, LB 90808), on the west side of Clark Ave. between Conant and Carson Sts.
City Hall's Environmental Services Bureau says on its webpage, "Many items used for home maintenance and repair contain toxic chemicals that are unsafe and harmful to our environment when disposed of improperly. E-waste -- like unwanted computers, televisions, printers and other electronics -- may contain lead, copper and other heavy metals or toxic substances that are harmful. It is illegal to put televisions and computer monitors in the landfill."
So take the opportunity and get the hazardous junk out of your garage.
