(March 15, 2007) -- In the closely-watched election for a new president of the Teachers Ass'n of LB (TALB), local teachers have chosen Michael Day over Marc Hyatt.
As posted by LBReport.com on our front page shortly after dawn, the unofficial tally is Day (676 votes) to Hyatt (553 votes).
Mr. Day supported TALB's current management approach under which TALB-backed candidates won two seats on the LBUSD School Board. Mr. Hyatt had proposed focusing less on political action and more on member services.
The outcome of the TALB election amounts to an endorsement of TALB's current approach which could mean election challenges for two School Board incumbents (Jon Meyer and Felton Williams) facing reelection in 2008. Election of one additional TALB backed boardmember would give the LB teachers union a working majority on the five-member School Board.
