  • (March 19, 2009) -- As LBReport.com readers were first to learn earlier today (advisory on our front page and emailed), Air Force One departed LB Airport today (March 19) in reverse of normal direction...over Los Altos, not Cal Hts/Bixby Knolls.

LBReport.com has video, plus your photos (more being added throughout this evening)...and the reasons for the uncommon take-off direction (reported by us below).

LBReport.com learned of the reverse of normal direction take-off through an announcement made publicly at today's meeting of LB's Airport Advisory Comm'n. by LB Airport Public Affairs Officer Sharon Diggs-Jackson. She indicated that the decision was based in part on the Air Force One's fully fueled weight crossing two runway bridges. (The plane's arriving weight was less.)

Air Force One made a graceful ascent, disappearing into a fog bank near CSULB.
