Man Shot, 1700 block E. 8th St. (Near Gaviota), Early Evening Tues. (Mar. 6)

(March 8, 2012) -- A shooting took place at early evening Tuesday March 6 in the 1700 block of E. 8th St. (near Gaviota, three blocks west of Cherry Ave.) in the 2nd Council district (Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal).

Information is sketchy, but LBPD says the shooting occurred at about 6:30 p.m. March 6. The victim (age and gender not immediately disclosed) was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On map above: Red Xs=2011 murders extended to date in 2012. Brown Xs=2010 murders. Blue X's = shootings since Aug. 2, 2011 (date Mayor/Mgr. proposed FY12 budget); Green Xs = shooting at residence (since Aug. 2/11)...and Yellow X's = shooting at an occupied vehicle.

A little over six hours earlier, about a block south and three blocks west, the clerk at a local business was assaulted by a man (adult) who attempted to rob the business in the 1400 block of E. 7th St. (just west of Walnut Ave.) The suspect was startled and abandoned his robbery attempt and fled, leaving the clerk injured.

The area is a few blocks from a "246" shooting on Friday, Mar. 2 in which shots were fired at vehicle (containing a man and a woman) as their car approached 11th St./Walnut Ave. The rounds missed.

In September 2011, a 28 year-old man was fatally shot in the 900 block of Walnut Ave.

LBPD's investigations of the most recent shootings, and the attempted store robbery, are continuing.
