LBFD used ladders to lower a Stokes basket into the channel, assessed the injured man's condition and safely lifted him up and out of the channel. He was transported to a local hospital and was in serious condition at that time, LBFD PIO Dobberpuhl says. Among the LB Firefighters we recognized on scene handling the rescue: Bill Ardizzone and Wayne Chaney (at left in photo below) LBFD says in a release that the cause of the accident is currently under investigation. LBPD blocked off westbound Carson St. traffic at Bellflower Blvd. while firefighters handled the task.
