See VIDEO of 2012 "St. Baldrick's Day" at Cubberley K-8 School...As Over 100 Kids + Many Adults (Including LB Firefighters) Have Their Heads Shaved To Raise Money To Fight Childhood Cancers; You Can Support Them Online

(Mar. 16, 2012) -- LBReport.com has VIDEO coverage of today's "St. Baldrick's Day" event at ELB's Cubberley K-8 School (3200 Monogram Ave.)...in which schoolchildren and adults had their heads shaved to raise money to fight childhood cancers.

Among those present was Kayleigh S., a former Cubberley student now attending Millikan High, who's being treated for a rare synovial sarcoma. She was age 10 when diagnosed. Her father and brother (photo abve) were among those having their heads shaved (her Dad for the fourth time).

Offering welcoming remarks and commending the students and volunteer "shavees" were 5th district Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske, Dr. Divya Joshi, M.D. (Chief Medical Officer, Miller Children's Hospital) and LB Mayor Bob Foster.

The event's website on StBaldricks.org said the Cubberley event's goal was to raise $30,000...and (when checked March 16) the webpage indicated the total raised was $43,697 with 102 "shavees." At late afternoon (Mar. 16), Councilwoman Schipske's office issued a release saying 200 shavees had taken part and the amount raised was $60,000.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity that funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government" says its website.

And we're told it's not too late to make a donation online. To make a donation in connection with the Cubberley St. Baldrick's Day event, click here.
