|
(Mar. 28, 2012) -- As reported yesterday on LBReport.com's front page (www.LBReport.com), Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal has effectively confirmed her future plans first reported in an interview with the Long Beach Business Journal, which quotes her as saying she would run for Mayor in 2014 if incumbent Mayor Bob Foster doesn't wage a write-in.
The Business Journal story was mentioned by Janet Ballantyne, one of Vice Mayor Lowenthal's opponents, during a March 26 2nd district City Council candidates forum. That led LBReport.com and PressTelegram.com to ask Vice Mayor Lowenthal after the event about her future plans. PressTelegram.com's Eric Bradley asked Vice Mayor Lowenthal, "Are you running for Mayor?" The sound clip that follows begins with her response, click here. [LB's Vice Mayor, who presides at Council meetings in the Mayor's absence, is chosen by a Council majority every two years.] During her closing statement at the 2nd district candidate forum, candidate Janet Ballantyne mentioned the Vice Mayor's Business Journal interview regarding a possible Mayoral run by Lowenthal in 2014 and commented as follows: "I really think that's sad if that's true because we really need someone in this position who's fully committed to the position and it would be sad to waste all of this time and energy for someone who's just going to abandon it actually in the next twelve months because it would take approximately that to get ready for the next race." Further as it develops.
