(Mar. 23, 2013, 4:20 p.m.) -- Councilman Al Austin says on Facebook: "A big thanks to everyone for their prayers and positive thoughts for the young 10 yr old shooting victim. I met with his family this morning [Mar. 23] at the hospital. He is in stable condition and is expected to recover."
(Mar. 22, 2013, updated 11:19 p.m. from initial 11:07 p.m.) -- Two people are shot -- and one is a child approximately 10 years old -- as gunfire flies on Friday night (Mar. 22) in the area of Del Amo Blvd. at Long Beach Blvd.

The child was inside a car with his parents when he was hit.

And another person (an adult) was also struck by gunfire.

LBPD Public Information Officer Nancy Pratt provides initial information (subject to further info which we'll add as received).

At about 8:00 p.m., a dispute occurred between some male subjects near a service station in the area of LB Blvd. at Del Amo Blvd. which escalated into a shooting. A male juvenile approximately 10 years old was struck by gunfire. He was in a vehicle with his parents when he was struck by gunfire.

His parents drove to the North LBPD station [just down the street on Del Amo @ Atlantic] and contacted police who transported the victim to a local hospital.

A second person was also struck by gunfire. He showed up at a local hospital and based on LBPD's investigation, he was also determined to be a victim of the gunfire.

8th district Councilman Al Austin (who dissented on his first City Council enacting budget vote in Sept. 2012 when a Council majority approved additional cuts to LB police -- transmitted these words on Facebook earlier tonight:

"Praying for a 10 yr. old innocent shooting victim tonight. Public safety matters!" Councilman Austin added to LBReport.com, "We need to take a more serious look at public safety in Long Beach. These shootings are becoming way too common."

Tonight's (Mar. 22) double-shooting comes nine days after a double-shooting in the area of 8th/Maine (1st Council district) in which one of the victims died. That double-shooting occurred just thirty minutes after another person was shot and wounded in the area of 7th/Lime (also in the 1st district). The suspects in both those shootings remain at large.

There's no suspect information in tonight's (Mar 22) shooting for now...and as always LBPD seeks the public's help. If you heard or saw anything related to what took place, contact LBPD at (562) 570-7250. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or text TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or visit www.lacrimestoppers.org.
