4th Council District Race: (1) Independent Committee Backing Supernaw Spends Nearly $9K On Its Mailers, Postage, Mailing & Design Costs...And Receives $16K From CA Ass'n of Realtors PAC; (2) Four Union PACs Give $8.5K To Chico Campaign

(March 23, 2015) -- With vote by mail ballots now flying as 4th Council district voters choose LB's next Councilmember (with decision making power citywide), campaign contribution reports show the following significant activity thus far in March:

  • An independent expenditure committee, supporting the election of Daryl Supernaw (and by law independent and separate from Supernaw's campaign) has come to life. "Long Beach Citizens in Support of Supernaw for Council 2015" filed organizational paperwork on Feb. 10...but remained quiet until March 19 when it filed paperwork indicating it spent $8,666 cumulatively on printing, postage, mailing, design and consulting costs (as of March 17), and received a $16,000 contribution from CREPAC [California Ass'n of Realtors PAC, Los Angeles] on March 19, adding to $1,250 received from (collectively) a Long Beach retiree and a LB property management firm (March 9 and 11 respectively.)

  • Herlinda Chico's campaign received $8,500 in four large contributions from labor unions in March:

    • Int'l Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 11 (Pasadena): $1,000 (March 11)
    • Southern CA Pipe Trades District Council 14 (Los Angeles): $2,500 (March 12)
    • CA Journeymen and Apprentices Local 250 (Gardena): $2,500 (March 12)
    • UFCW [United Food & Comm' Workers] Local 324 PAC (Buena Park): $2,500 (March 17)

    Polling place election day is April 1
