At the news conference, Chief Luna described -- and an LBPD release spells out in detail here -- a convoluted series of events leading up to Eliza's kidnapping. LBPD says the female murder suspect allegedly tried to trick her then-boyfriend (a married man who wasn't arrested and is cooperating with LBPD) into thinking she had become pregnant and given birth to his twins. LBPD says its Detectives determined that the suspect hadn't given birth to any children in 2014 and LBPD alleges that to continue the deception, the murder suspect allegedly [release text] "intended to produce two children who matched the ages of her fabricated twins. [Suspect] D'Milian [allegedly] developed a plot with Suspect McCall to kidnap Baby Eliza and pass her off as her own child..." LBPD says the reason(s) why Eliza was killed aren't currently clear. Chief Luna stressed that the case is still active and under investigation...and he urged anyone who may have information about what took place to come forward. [Scroll down for further below.]
The suspects arrested earlier today (Mar. 25) are:
[LBPD release text] [heading] Possible motive for the kidnapping. [text] Recently, detectives were able to piece together a possible motive for the kidnapping. In 2014, Suspect Giseleangelique Rene D'Milian fabricated a story to her boyfriend that she was pregnant with his twins. She told him that she gave birth to his children in December 2014, while out of the country. Based on their investigation, detectives determined D'Milian never gave birth to any children in 2014 and in order to continue with this deception, she intended to produce two children who matched the ages of her fabricated twins. D'Milian developed a plot with Suspect McCall to kidnap Baby Eliza and pass her off as her own child... Chief Luna and LBPD's release both stressed that the case remains actively under investigation...and police continue to seeks the public's help: [LBPD release text] The investigation remains ongoing and the public’s help is still needed. Detectives believe D’Milian misrepresented that she had a charitable organization that wanted to help young mothers and their infants. Detectives believe D’Milian contacted friends and acquaintances in their efforts to find infants. Detectives are hopeful additional witnesses, who can provide supporting evidence of D’Milian or her associates’ prior attempts to seek out infants, will come forward.
