(Mar. 4, 2015, 6:20 a.m.) -- Following-up on a story reported yesterday (Mar 3.) by LBREPORT.com, the LB Fire Department says 50 firefighters responded, five firefighters sustained minor injuries, an 85 year old male resident suffered smoke inhalation, he and his 27 year old son (not home at the time) are displaced, their pet dog is dead and their cat is unaccounted-for following a Bluff Park area house fire (1st/Redondo area) that escalated to a second alarm and LBFD has ruled an "accidental heating fire." [LBFD text] At 11:55 AM today, Long Beach Fire Department units responded to reports of a structure fire at 3400 East 1st Street. The first fire engine arrived at 11:57 AM. Engine 2 reported finding a 2 story, single family home with heavy fire observed on the first floor. The firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack and began vertical ventilation operations to support fire suppression activities. It was immediately determined that the owner of the home had escaped the fire and that he was alone when the fire started. There were no other reports of occupants inside the building. (Mar 3, 2015) -- A house fire broke out shortly before noon -- and escalated to a second alarm -- in the Bluff Park area of Redondo Ave./1st St.. A witness reported seeing up to 10 fire units, 10 police cars, and Animal Care Services (which was observed carrying out a covered animal.) Reader photos below (thank you).
