(Mar. 9, 2016, 6:45 a.m.) -- Heartfelt demand has exceeded event venue capacity for a March 10 benefit concert honoring LBCC student and Millikan High graduate Alicia Faith Todd by creating scholarships in her name and supporting a Millikan program for artistically-inclined students. Organizers say tickets won't be sold at the door and no one can be admitted without a ticket BUT we're told online donations are still welcome with a click at this link.

Ms. Todd was attending LBCC and planning to transfer to CSULB when she was found fatally shot in June 2015 in Central LB at age 21; her boyfriend was recently charged with her murder; he has pleaded not guilty.

Local bands Better Heroes and Cassette Culture (members include current and former Millikan students) agreed to perform at LB's famed Fingerprints Music with ticket-sale proceeds benefiting scholarships and art supplies for graduating students in Millikan's COMPASS program ("Community of Musicians, Performers, Artists and Social Scientists.")

Event organizers priced some of the silent auction items so most anyone can afford something, even if it's a $2 raffle ticket or movie tickets. The items were donated by people all over Long Beach and beyond - parents, businesses; students: their art and even babysitting services. Others offering donated items include LB restaurants, the Grammy Museum, LB Opera, the Westin Hotel and other weekend getaway spots. Some local artists have donated, too.

Ms. Todd was aiming to become a social worker. Millikan's COMPASS Booster Club (a 501(c)(3) non profit) says on its Facebook page that it will offer the new scholarships in her name to Millikan COMPASS grads [Facebook page text] "based on community service qualifications."

"She was an exuberant human being. She was taking 12 units [at LBCC] and working two jobs at a time, while still getting As and Bs. She did it and still had time to have a social life and be with her friends," said her sister, Patricia Todd.

Tickets are sold out but we're told online donations continue to be welcome at this link.

[Editor's note: Millikan High COMPASS supporter Nancy Wride (former Patch editor and veteran L.A. Times journalist) actively supported this event (including rounding up $2,000+ in donated items for the silent auction) and provided us with much of the text above.]
