Two Men Shot, One Dies, 48th St./LB Blvd.

(March 3, 2017) -- As flashed on our front page on March 1, two men were shot -- one of whom did not survive -- in the area of 48th St. just west of LB Blvd.

In March 2 release, LBPD says that shortly after 7 p.m. March 1 at roughly 7:04 p.m., LB police were dispatched to an unknown trouble call in the area of LB Blvd/48th Street and arrived to find two victims with gunshot injuries. LBFD transported a man (adult) in stable condition to a hospital and also determined a man (adult) deceased at the scene. The decedent's identity is pending release by the Coroner's office; LBPD says a motive for the shooting is unknown and its investigation is ongoing.

The double shooting occurred at virtually the same time as Police Chief Robert Luna and LBPD South Div. Lt. Coy were speaking at a public meeting organized by 1st dist. Councilwoman Gonzalez to discuss public safety. Earlier the same day (Mar. 1), the 1st district had two shootings: one shortly before 5 a.m (area PCH/710 fwy, victim had non-life-threatening wounds) and a second in the 1 p.m hour in the 1200 block of Chestnut Ave. (unoccupied vehicle struck, no person hit.)
