(March 11, 2017, 5:55 p.m.) -- Long Beach Airport Advisory Commission Vice Chair, and veteran LB Airport business operator (owner Million Air North; boardmember LB Airport Ass'n) Glenn Ray has exited the Mayor/Council-appointed advisory body.

The story broke earlier today (March 11) on the grassroots 4th district blog (www.longbeach4dblogspot.com, not affiliated with 4th district Council office) which spotted and reported that Mr. Ray's name doesn't appear on the AAC's published agenda for its March 16 meeting. LBREPORT.com noted that Mr. Ray is no longer listed on the Commission's online roster and pursued the story

In an upbeat, businesslike tone, Mr. Ray told LBREPORT.com that on Friday (March 10) he requested permission to resign from the Mayor's office (conveyed to the Mayor's Chief of Staff.) When we asked Mr. Ray why he's resigning, he replied "14 years is plenty" and mentioned his lengthy tenure more than once.

When we said people would likely speculate this had something to do with the upcoming March 16 AAC agenda which includes [agendized text] "a recommendation to the City Council that the Council reconsider its January 24, 2017 decision not to move forward with the approval or development of a Federal Inspection Station (customs facility) at the Long Beach Airport," Mr. Ray said "no" and said he would have recused himself on that action in any case. When we posed the questions in two different ways, his response was the same that his resignation has nothing to do with the upcoming agendized item.

The scheduled March 16 AAC discussion of the customs facility stems from a Feb. 16 Commission action (LBREPORT.com detailed coverage here) on a motion by Commissioner Rowe, seconded by Commissioner Scott on which Commission Vice Chair Ray and Commission Chair Karen Sherman both recused themselves.
