(UPDATED March 8, 2018, 6:50 a.m.) -- Information remains skecthy at dawn following a late-afternoon March 7 fatal encounter between an allegedly non-compliant man armed with a handgun in a vehicle spotted by LBPD on Ocean Blvd. near Chestnut Ave. (across from City Hall) after a distraught woman (relationship unclear) reported he was allegedly planning to blow up LB's federal building (on Ocean Blvd. west of Magnolia Ave.)

[LBPD PIO information] LBPD spotted and surrounded the vehicle on Ocean [near Chestnut, east of Magnolia]; said its driver didn't comply with officers' orders; LBPD activated SWAT...and after roughly two hours of negotiation at about 6 p.m. an officer involved shooting occurred (circumstances unclear.)

Several rounds were fired; the suspect was hit; a K9 assisted in taking him into custody; LBFD transported the suspect to a hospital...and he did not survive.
