Council Re-Election Shoo-In Vice Mayor Rex Richardson Makes $10,000 "In Kind" Campaign Contribution (Staff/Walkers) -- Possibly Largest Single Campaign Contrib In History Of LBCC Races -- To Support L.A. County Dem Party Activist Uduak Ntuk Against LBCC Trustee Jeff Kellogg; Richardson Also Gives Sums To Support Re-Election Of LB City Council Incumbents Suzie Price & Roberto Uranga

(March 8, 2018, 5:10 p.m.) -- Within weeks of learning that he faced no serious challenge to his re-election, 9th district Council incumbent/Vice Mayor Rex Richardson made a whopping $10,000 in-kind campaign contribution from his re-election campaign warchest for "campaign staff/walkers" -- in effect providing a valuable ground campaign -- to support the campaign of Uduak Ntuk (who happens to be L.A. County Democratic Party's 70th Assembly district delegation chair) currently seeking to oust veteran LBCC Trustee (and former 8th district Councilmember) Jeff Kellogg (one of LB's few remaining Republican elected officials.)

The $10,000 in-kind contribution, reported by the Ntuk campaign as received from Richardson's re-election campaign on March 1 is to our knowledge the largest single campaign contribution (in-kind or otherwise) in the history of LBCC's supposedly non-partisan governing Board of Trustee races.

Campaign disclosure forms in the LBCC race show that as of Feb. 24, Trustee Kellogg had $31,560 in re-election campaign cash on hand while Uduak had nearly $60,000 (roughly $14,000 of which came from various organized labor sources.) Ntuk's campaign also reported receiving a $2,768 in-kind contribution on March 1 (indicated for "consulting") from LBCC's Community College Ass'n PAC (faculty union).

[Scroll down for further.]

The "in-kind" contributions presumably mean the (now superfluous) Richardson re-election campaign and the LBCC faculty PAC are paying for or otherwise providing "campaign staff/walkers" and "consulting" for Ntuk's campaign.

During the period Jan. 1-Feb. 24, Vice Mayor Richardson also used his (now-superfluous) re-election warchest to give the maximum allowable cash sum ($400) to the re-election campaigns of Council incumbents Suzie Price and Roberto Uranga (both battling challengers in April 2018 elections). Richardson's re-election committee also reported returning $250 to refund a campaign contribution received from Councilman Uranga.

In late January 2018, Richardson learned that his only ballot listed opponent had decided to withdraw from the race after a still unidentified person(s) purchased a website domain with the challenger's name that would pop up in search engines and began using the site to post bogus statements injurious to the challenger.

Richardson's campaign also received $250 from the now superfluous re-election committee of Council incumbent Lena Gonzalez (re-elected without a ballot challenger.) Gonzalez also gave Uranga's campaign $250 from her re-election campaign committee.

And this: Councilwoman Stacy Mungo's re-election campaign reported receiving $125 on Jan. 9 from Delouis Andrews -- more recognizable as 6th district Councilman Dee Andrews -- apparently from his personal sums (since he has no re-election campaign.)
