Council Asked To Authorize Agreement With Aviation Law Firm, Primary Focus To Maintain and Preserve LB Airport Noise Compatibility Ordinance, Readying Up to $500,000 Legal War Chest
(May 17, 2002) -- Putting money where the city's mouth is, City Attorney Robert Shannon is asking the City Council to authorize a protective war chest and legal armor concerning LB's Airport Noise Compatibility ordinance.
At the May 21 Council meeting, City Attorney Shannon plans to seek Council authorization for an agreement of up to $500,000 with the law firm of Gatzke, Dillon and Ballance, LLP. a firm with expertise in aviation issues.
In his agendizing memo, City Attorney Shannon indicates the agreement is to "assist the City Attorney in connection with legal issues and, if necessary, litigation involving the operation of the Long Beach Airport. In this regard, the primary focus of the City's legal efforts will be to maintain and preserve the current Long Beach Airport Noise Compatibility Ordinance."
