Activists Plan QW Bay "Heart Breaking" Ceremony At City Hall Tonight

(May 21, 2002) -- Promising a mixture of parody and pathos, a number of LB activists say they'll hold a candlelight "Heart Breaking" ceremony outside City Hall tonight at 6 p.m. in response to last week's groundbreaking ceremony for the "Pike at Rainbow Harbor" (formerly called the QW Bay 18 acre entertainment/retail project.)

ECO-link chair Diana Mann says Jason Bond from the San Clemente Bagpipers "will be playing a few appropriate songs" and candles will be provided.

Ms. Mann told LBReport.com she is outraged that past City Halls erased the downtown portion of Long Beach's namesake long beach and present LB officialdom applauds the result today.

Of tonight's planned "heart breaking" ceremony, Ms. Mann advised, "Bring Kleenex."
