CA Republican Party Fires Back, Calls City Atty's Civil Suit Frivolous, Barred Under Prop. 34

(May 3, 2002) -- In a concise, stern response, the CA Republican Party has called a civil lawsuit filed yesterday by LB City Attorney Robert Shannon "frivolous" and said the city attorney "does not appear to be aware of Long Beach's own campaign statutes or state law governing campaign activity."

The statement said the CA Republican Party "has a right to contact members of the Republican Party under the provisions of Proposition 34, which preempts local campaign law restrictions."

It added that the Party would "confer with the City Attorney before filing a motion to dismiss the action under state law to seek Long Beach's voluntary dismissal of the action."

Developing.
