Double Shooting, 500 block Rhea Ave.; 19-Yr Old Man Has Multiple Gunshot Wounds; 13-Yr Old Girl Hit Once; Both Alive
(May 6, 2003, 11:40 p.m., updated May 7, 7:20 a.m.) -- A 19 year old man -- under the sheet but alive with multiple gunshot wounds -- and a 13 year old girl shot in her lower leg became LB crime victims at roughly 6:00 p.m. on May 6. |

Scott Clegg says firefighters responded to the 500 block of Rhea Ave. (b/w LB Blvd. & Atlantic, 3 blocks north of PCH) and found a 19 year old man with what appeared to be eight wounds [unclear if entry or exit]: a gunshot wound to his abdomen, a grazing wound to his chest...and six wounds to his arms and legs. LBFD transported him to a local hospital in stable condition.

[update] LBPD Public Information Jana Blair tells LBReport.com a Hispanic suspect walked up and shot the two African American victims. The suspect then fled in a vehicle nearby.
LBPD worked through the night, serving search warrants in connection with this crime.
